The Trout Hollow Trail traverses both sides of the Bighead River, following the present trail up to the old dam and then breaking new ground to the 7th line. It is located across the street from Beautiful Joe Park. The trail is a foot path that meanders along the banks of Bighead river, following its ebbing and flowing path. Running through woodland, across streams and even vast meadows, this trail offers beautiful scenery and an easy stroll through the wilderness. 

Trout Hollow Trail : Points of Interest

  • There are 3 different trails of varying difficulty. The West side of the river is a moderately difficult trail. On the East side of the river it starts with the trails easy section however 3/4 the way in changes drastically and you are now facing the most difficult section of the trail before it links up with the West side.
  • Along the trail you will find the remains of the Trout Hollow Sawmill where John Muir lived and worked with the Trouts while in Canada. John Muir later became the founder of the Sierra Club and is referred to in the US as the father of their national parks system. You’ll also see the river-ravished remains of a century old hydro dam. There are multiple points of interest along this trail.
