One of the most frequently asked questions we receive at South Georgian Bay Tourism is “what is there to do in the winter time?”. We believe that winter is best spent warmly dressed and in the snow. Explore Scenic Caves Nature Adventures

Hit the trails at Scenic Caves. Snowshoe the 10km of snowshoe/hiking trails or cross-country ski on the 27km of ski or skate trails. Make sure your phone is fully charged prior to your snowshoe or ski adventure so you are able to take some great insta-worthy pictures from the iconic Suspension Bridge!

Snowshoe Tour

Take a snowshoe tour with Free Spirit Tours. Experience the beauty of winter while snowshoeing through a winter wonderland.  You’ll be guided on trails leading through beautiful woodlands with the opportunity to see some wild life.  Don’t worry if you haven’t snowshoed before  – we provide full instruction and equipment.

Ski or Snowboard

One of the main draws to the South Georgian Bay area in the wintertime is the best skiing in Ontario! Blue Mountain Resort is the best place to accommodate all levels of skiing. Whether you need to rent gear and take a lesson, or are an experienced skier looking for double black diamonds, you will be able to fill your day with fun on the slopes!

Hike and Tube 

A gentle introduction to the mountain! Snow tubing provides guests with a genuine downhill experience without the speed and equipment associated with skiing and snowboarding. Explore Downtown

Downtown Collingwood, Thornbury, Creemore, and Meaford make for beautiful and cozy excursions during the winter months. Stroll along the streets, under the twinkling lights, and in and out of various artisanal boutiques, cafes, and restaurants. See our website for information on shops and restaurants.

Skating

Skate at one of the outdoor ice rinks in the area. Both Collingwood and Wasaga Beach have outdoor rinks until March or so. Click HERE for more skating times & locations. The Woodview Mountaintop Skating at Blue Mountain is a 1.1km ice skating loop while enjoying extraordinary views along the Niagara Escarpment. Ice skate rentals are available and all skill levels are welcome.

Cross Country Skiing

Itching for more Nordic trails to experience? Visit Highlands Nordic, located just south of Collingwood in Duntroon. There is 22km of track set & skating tails plus 7km of snowshoe trails which offer stunning views of Wasaga Beach & the lowlands area. Rentals are available as well as March Break programs for the kids. There is also a toboggan hill! Don’t forget to bring your own toboggan & check to see if the hill is open prior to heading out.

Scandinave Spa

At the Scandinave Spa  you can soak in the outdoor baths while you watch Blue Mountain Resort skiers carve down the slopes under the night lights. Enjoy the baths, sauna rooms, and campfires as snow falls onto your robe. The steam from the baths mixed with the starry, night sky makes for a magical experience.
