As our namesake would suggest, Georgian Bay is what originally attracted the settlement of such waterfront communities as Wasaga Beach, Collingwood, Thornbury, Meaford and Owen Sound, tied to activities ranging from shipbuilding to sawmills that helped to connect Ontario with the Prairies and Western Canada.
While many of these activities are now just a part of history, each of these communities still boasts active, vibrant waterfronts thanks to the marinas, nearby beaches and parkland that are ideal for everything from water sports to picnics to camping, not to mention ice fishing in the winter months.
Collingwood and Thornbury are equally influenced by their proximity to the Niagara Escarpment, or what’s better know as ‘Blue Mountain’, making them ideal starting points for such activities as skiing in the winter and hiking during the green season.

In contrast, Creemore and Stayner – both part of Clearview Township, are defined more by the area’s rolling countryside and such unique natural attractions as the Minesing Wetland, home to a diverse habitat.
