Romantic Winter Getaway in South Georgian Bay

Escape from the stress of the holidays and come spend a much-needed romantic getaway with your partner. Treat yourselves to a luxurious hotel stay, experience the magic of South Georgian Bay winters, and get out in the snow. Keep reading for all of the itinerary details!

Day 1 – Friday Afternoon

Arrive in Collingwood on Friday afternoon to check into The Dorchester Hotel. This Collingwood landmark turned luxurious hotel is home to 22 different rooms, each paying tribute to pieces of Collingwood’s heritage. Book the Grand Balcony Suite to overlook the winter wonderland on Hurontario Street. A private balcony, plush towels and robes, and a King size bed will make for the perfect, cozy winter stay.

Next, bundle up and take a trip to the little town of Creemore. There’s nothing more romantic than the storyline of a Hallmark Christmas movie, and that’s exactly what you get when you step into Creemore. This gorgeous little downtown village is full of character and holiday spirit. Hold hands, stroll down snowy Mill Street, and browse through the charming shops. Spend the afternoon doing a little Christmas shopping for your loved ones (or for yourselves…no judgement here).

Be sure to make a stop at the Creemore Bakery. Fill a box full of delicious freshly baked pastries to bring home some goodies.

Friday Evening

For dinner, stay on Mill Street to enjoy authentic French cuisine at Chez Michel. Relax in the intimacy of the wine bar, and enjoy a gourmet candlelit dinner. Spend some much-needed quality time warming up in this cozy, yet elegant atmosphere. Chat about your exciting upcoming weekend itinerary over a special bottle of wine, pulled from Chez Michel’s own personal cellar.

Return back to Collingwood and catch a show at The Historic Gayety Theatre before crawling into your robes and calling it a night. This elegant Victorian-style theatre is located in Collingwood’s downtown, just steps away from your hotel. The theatre has been entertaining patrons for over a century, and is the perfect date night idea to cuddle up and watch a spectacular live performance.

Day 2 – Saturday Morning

Good morning! Time to take a walk through downtown Collingwood. Nothing will wake you up like that crisp winter morning air! But also, coffee. So let’s first stop at Gibson & Company for a fresh cup. This elevated café is located down a narrow brick alleyway, with beautiful lights strung above. It truly is one of Collingwood’s hidden gems!

Next, it’s time to explore the Blue Mountain Foundation for the Arts (BMFA) Arts Hub. Sometimes slow mornings are needed…especially when you’re on vacation. Spend a quiet morning strolling through the art gallery together, admiring the talent of local artists.

Now it’s time to brave the cold and meet Free Spirit Tours at Petun Conservation Area. Embark on a guided snowshoe to experience the beauty of South Georgian Bay’s winter wonderland. Take some time to laugh, play in the snow, and tap into your inner child with your significant other! You won’t regret this one!

Saturday Afternoon

A busy morning calls for a big lunch! Head to The Dornoch Tap & Grill to warm up and grab a bite to eat. Enjoy the ambience of this cozy pub, nestled between Collingwood and Duntroon, in the small town of Nottawa.

After lunch, drive into Duntroon and make a stop at Duntroon Cyder House. Cozy up by the fire together with a couple of handcrafted ciders, and make a toast to the two of you. Enjoy your own private experience in these super cool (no pun intended) igloos. Share a flight of ciders, charcuterie, and memories. The rustic charm of this place also happens to make it the perfect spot for a photo op (or two). Be sure to take some cute couples’ photos with these stunning winter backdrops.

Saturday Evening

Next, take a little drive into the town of Thornbury for dinner at  Bruce Wine Bar. This restaurant is definitely a must-visit. From signature woodfired pizzas, to outstanding seafood, you just can’t go wrong. Pair your entrees with amazing house-crafted cocktails, Ontario craft beer, and of course, the sommelier-curated wine list. Reservations are recommended.

After finishing dinner, head to Blue Mountain Village to finish your evening. This is truly a magical place to visit all year round, but especially at night in the winter season. It almost feels as though you’re walking through Santa’s workshop, with the spectacular light displays, decorations, and falling snow. Browse the cute little shops before driving up Scenic Caves Road to the very top of the Mountain. Lace up your skates (rentals are available), grab hands, and adventure through the Woodview Mountaintop Skating trail during this super fun and unique experience.

Day 3 – Sunday Morning and Afternoon

After a busy Saturday, fuel up with coffee across the street from your hotel at Espresso Post. This little coffee shop is cute, cozy, and full of holiday spirit. Unfortunately, the time has come to check out of The Dorchester. But don’t worry, your adventure isn’t over yet! Suit up in your snow gear and get ready for an exciting morning, and a leisurely afternoon.

Return back to Blue Mountain for a morning of skiing or snowboarding…whichever you prefer! You can’t visit South Georgian Bay without hitting the slopes and experiencing one of our most popular snow activities for yourself. With over 40 trails, you’re sure to have some fun! Not to mention, the ski lift makes for some pretty incredible views of the entire region, including icy Georgian Bay.

Walk into the Village for lunch at Kaytoo Restaurant and Bar. Get comfy inside this Canadian-style restaurant that overlooks the Mill Pond. A warm fire, Christmas lights lining the windows, and s’mores for dessert are giving all of the cozy winter vibes that we love.

Finally, make a short trip over to the Scandinave Spa Blue Mountain for a restful and romantic afternoon. Embrace the wilderness as you relax in the warmth of the outdoor baths. This is the ultimate digital detox you’ve been craving, making it the ideal spot to spend quality time with your loved one. End your romantic winter getaway with a relaxing couples’ massage and return home feeling refreshed, connected, and smitten. Safe travels home and we hope to see you again soon!
