Average Reviews

Nestled on beautiful Georgian Bay, Thornbury has more to offer than just a comforting small town feel. Be sure to visit Thornbury’s scenic harbour and the River Walk Trail and Fish Ladder adjacent to the Blue Mountains’ Town Hall. Thornbury’s slogan is Four Seasons of Charming which is quite the accurate statement. No matter the season or time of day there is always something to do in Thornbury. It’s a town rich with history and community pride. Some may say that the Thornbury Pier is the icon of a picturesque small town. There you can see locals and tourists alike, young and old, leaping into the water. It’s a favorite in Town during the summer when the days get hot but is a beautiful sight any time of year. The sunsets at the pier can’t be beat. Along with the idyllic walk there is plenty more to see. The Thornbury Harbour is in full bloom during the spring and summer with flowers that are lovingly cared for. There is also the Little River Park and Beach at the Harbour that kids love. The Thornbury Harbour has a little bit of everything and a little something for everyone. If you wish to stay and enjoy this beautiful location overnight then you might like to consider the Royal Harbour Resort nestled right across from the pier. If you’re interested in exploring Georgian Bay from Thornbury you may want to stop by Gyles Sails and Marine. On Thornbury’s main drag you’ll notice a lack of big box or chain stores. It has managed to maintain its small town reputation and features boutiques and cafes with quaint local charm. There’s also a beautiful parkette complete with garden and waterfall. If you’re looking for a spot to stop and eat you won’t regret taking a trying Thornbury favorite The Dam Pub. If you continue on up the main street and follow into Clarksburg you’ll be pleasantly surprised. Clarksburg is a quaint village in The Blue Mountains, Ontario Canada located in the Beaver Valley just south of Thornbury on Grey Rd 13. The Beaver River cascades through a series of picturesque rapids from Clendenan Dam through the village and northward to Georgian Bay. Clarksburg is a bustling little village with interesting places to visit and shop such as the old fashioned hardware store with its well worn wooden floors and a hand cranked cash register, the honey store that is shaped like a bee hive and Clarksburgers, the funky clothing store. The locale has a blend of the traditional and modern. Clarksburg or “Artsburg” as many call it, has now become the art centre of the region with the opening of art galleries and studios. The Marsh Street Centre is a cultural hotspot in The Blue Mountains, hosting a blend of theatre, music, art shows and even opera on occasion. The gallery windows are always changing and give new meaning to the phrase “paint the town.” Clarksburg is also home to some gorgeous Victorian houses, and beautiful nature trails located near Clendenan Dam. If you would like to delve even further into your wonderful small town experience, then follow the main road as it turns into Grey Road 13 and make a stop at the Farmer’s Pantry. Fun for the whole family, it has a petting zoo, farm themed mini golf, farm market, you-pick fruit from 15 different varieties of local apples in season. You can also pick your own raspberries (late July-mid August). This is apple country! A special place where the moderating effects of Georgian Bay and the Niagara Escarpment create perfect conditions for growing amazing apples, and baking perfect apple pies. While travelling the quiet country roads near Thornbury and Clarksburg, enjoy the sweet aroma of blossoms in the spring; ripening fruit in the summer; brilliant colours in the fall and crisp sheets of white in the winter. No matter what time you visit, the Apple Pie Trail is always delicious. Once you’re here, you may as well round off your trip by continuing into Heathcote to Free Spirit Tours that can guide you through all styles of outdoor adventures or rent you the gear to explore on your own.
