Looking for the ride of your life? South Georgian Bay is a bike lover’s paradise, whether you’re a roadie or a mountain biking adventurer. For road biking enthusiasts coming from a more urban setting, you’ll love the fact that wherever your starting point, within minutes if not seconds, you’ll find yourself on scenic country roads. Cycle Simcoe has mapped over 650 km of routes geared for everyone from tour riders looking to challenge themselves by distance, elevation or both. Blessed with an abundance of trail networks geared for all different levels, South Georgian Bay is also a mountain biking mecca, attracting riders from across the province. For single track lovers, 3-Stages has 23 km of trails, many of which are rooted and rocky – especially appealing to technical riders. On the other side of the Escarpment, the 60 km Kolapore Highlands is equally popular and challenging. Blue Mountain Resort’s downhill biking experience is sure to provide an adrenaline rush, with the largest bike park in Ontario and 19 trails ranging from beginner to expert level. Onsite rentals and lessons are available throughout the biking season. For a scenic more low key experience, South Georgian Bay has several protected trails where you can go flat out – literally. Often built on former rail trails, easy to ride options range from the 14 km Clearview/Collingwood Train Trail to the scenic 11 km Carly Paterson Trail in Wasaga Beach, to the Georgian Trail.

Eagle Adventure Experiences have Beach, Mountain and Road Bikes (kids bikes also) for rent – ride the trails of Lower Georgian Bay Blue Mountain Resort (mountain bikes). Also offer mountain biking lessons & bike repairs Living Stone Golf Resort offers bike rentals to their guests as well as the public, for 2, 4 & 8 hours Georgian Bay Hotel also offers bike rentals to their guests. $8 per hour, $30 for a half day (4-5 hrs.), or $40 whole day rentals. Prices include tax and helmet rentals.

SIGNATURE ROUTES 

Apple Pie Trail Peddle

Difficulty: Easy/Moderate Length: 40 km

Start: Blue Mountain Village

Load your bike on the Blue Mountain Gondola and cycle 40km through the scenic Beaver Valley orchards, trails and country roads. The first 3km is a bit challenging but will all be forgotten when you’re riding down the escarpment. Return to Blue Mountain Village via the Georgian Trail along the shoreline of Georgian Bay.

Old Mail Road 

Difficulty:  Moderate Length: 32 km (or 20 km shorter loop) Start: Thornbury town center

Challenge yourself on this loop with hill climbs and descents as you transport back into another time through welcoming communities filled with tasty food stops, galleries and opportunities to further explore the Beaver River. This route features quiet back roads, farmers markets, orchards, peddle and paddle excursions and small town history, like the Old Mail Road. This used to be the primary route for travellers via slow moving stage coaches in the bygone era of the 1800’s.  Note to Riders: Some paved and unpaved roads. Caution on Grey Rd 7, Grey Rd 13 and roads through Clarksburg and Thornbury, limited paved shoulders, high speed traffic. Some steep hills to climb and descend, take shorter loop to avoid more challenging. Old Mail Road unpaved with some loose gravel, but very scenic, historic and quiet.

Georgian Trail to Meaford

Difficulty: Easy Length: 34 km (each way) Start: 3 Birch Street, Collingwood or Craigleith Depot – 113 Lakeshore Rd.

From Collingwood to Meaford, the trail runs near Highway 26 West with numerous access points along the way. If you are looking for the most scenic waterfront trail in the area, the Georgian Trail has it. Running along the south shore of beautiful Georgian Bay, the Georgian Trail has ample opportunity to stop, rest and swim during the summer months.

Badjeros Loop

Difficulty: Advanced Length: 85 km Start: Fisher Fields Park, CollingwoodKnown for its challenging climbs and scenic landscape, the Badjeros Loop was designed for the advanced rider looking to test their abilities. The start is flat until you cross County Road 91, after which you have a series of rolling climbs to the top with a great view over Georgian Bay and then a steep drop into Creemore, a very pretty town with great cafes, restaurants and galleries. Riders then pass through the quaint town of Dunedin before taking the long and challenging climb up to Maple Valley and Highway 124. Enjoy the view of Mennonite country, riding through Mennonite farms and churches, before you head down Pretty River Valley Road and back in to Collingwood.
