Kid-friendly Activities in South Georgian Bay
We can’t believe that summer vacation is already half way through! South Georgian Bay is a great location for kids and families to enjoy the summer season together with lots of outdoor activities. To make things easier, we’ve outlined a list of exciting activities for the kids to enjoy that are open and ready for guests. See what’s in store for you and the family to explore!!
Wasaga 500 Go-karts is a great fun-filled playground that makes for the perfect family entertainment centre. Wasaga 500 Go-karts is home to 50 go-karts and a full mile long track that is fully paved, making it one of the longest go-kart tracks in the world! Whether you are looking to whip around the track and feel like you’re a true race car driver, or take a swing over at the batting cages, Wasaga 500 go-karts will keep you entertained! You can also take your chance at getting a hole in one at the mini putt course before heading over to the snack bar to grab a bite to eat!
The Elmvale Zoo is open and ready to welcome you! It has been a long time waiting for zoos to be able to open their gates again and fortunately, South Georgian Bay is located just 30-40 minutes away, where you can pack up the kids and head out for a day full of smiles and fun! The Elmvale Zoo is home to a variety of animal species ranging from Tigers, Zebras, and Giraffes to bird species such as Flamingos and Macaws. Elmvale Zoo is making sure to follow health and safety protocols and following government restrictions. They ask that guests pre book a reservation time on their website and pay upon arrival. Due to COVID-19 their daily animal education presentations, as well as their food vendor and picnic amenities are temporarily closed at this time so make sure to pack some water and snacks!
Blue Mountain Village is jam packed with fun family friendly activities that both the kids and parents will be sure to enjoy! Currently, the resort is offering tickets for a variety of outdoor adventure activities such as rock climbing, the Ridge Runner Mountain Coaster, open-air gondola, cascade mini putt, woodlot low ropes and timber high ropes, paddle boating, private Segway tours, the plunge aquatic centre (outdoor pool only), ziplining, kids camp, and bike rentals, just to name a few! Additionally, the resort has a variety of suitable restaurants with open patios that are kid friendly as well as many gift shops, a pottery shop that offers take home pottery painting kits, and an old-fashion style candy shop! You can never run out of things to do in the village and we promise you won’t leave disappointed!
Collingwood is home to many different shops, restaurants and activities that are fun and affordable for the whole family. Kick off the summer by showing off your competitive side and “striking” into action at Georgian Bowl! you won’t be disappointed and you’ll be sure to have a blast. Georgian Bowl is not just a bowling alley, whether you take your shot at the lanes or head over to the arcade Georgian Bowl has it all! They also offer a variety of snacks and treats to fuel your energy throughout your stay. Feeling thirsty? Grab a slushy before your next round and don’t worry parents, they have a vast list of beers and cocktails for you to enjoy! As Ontario has entered stage 3 of the phases to reopening, Georgian Bowl is thrilled to announce that there doors are open! They do ask that you book your reservation/timeslot in advance and wear a mask when indoors. There patio is also open and lawn games are available for free with any food/drink purchase. The friendly staff at Georgian Bowl can’t wait to see you!
Fernwood Farms and Market is a great place for family fun! From their fresh produce to homemade pies and tarts Fernwood has all your fresh food needs and lot’s of sweets for the kids to choose from, including a wide selection of Kawartha ice cream! At this time Fernwood is offering pick your own strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, sweet corn, peas, beans and pumpkins (Please call ahead for booking time and dates) How about picking your own fresh fruit and then teaching the kids how to turn them into jam? Fernwood also sells homemade syrups, jams, chilis honey and bread… just to name a few so you’ll be sure to find something suitable for you and the family to enjoy!
Scenic Caves Nature Adventures is a great place to take the kids and have a fun filled day that is jam packed with adventure and exploration! Currently the adventure park is open and guests are invited to explore the caves and caverns, take a stroll across the suspension bridge, check out there variety of hiking trails/lookouts, gemstone mining (for the kids), have a picnic by the pond, play a round of mini golf, enjoy the children’s adventure playground, and grab a bite to eat at the new state of the art mobile food truck, Trail’s End Grill! Scenic Caves has an expansive list of activities to enjoy that will leave the whole family entertained! They do ask for you to arrive on site early, so that you get the chance to purchase tickets before the park reaches capacity, as all sales are done by credit/debit IN-PERSON ONLY. The park also asks that all guests be wearing closed toe shoes upon arrival and for the duration of your stay to ensure you can explore safely!
