How to Support Restaurants Right Now
With current provincial health orders prohibiting indoor and outdoor dining, our local food and beverage industry has once again had to close their doors and adapt to new restrictions. We admire their tenacity in these ever-changing times as they continue to demonstrate creativity and strength in how they support their staff and customers. By continuing to support your favourite spots and by trying new ones, you are helping to keep our SGB food and beverage community thriving during these turbulent times. Here are 5 ways you can continue to support restaurants (and breweries, and cideries, and caterers, and food trucks, and markets) right now!
1. Order Take-Away
We know that this is kind of a given but seriously, you’re now being strongly encouraged to partake in the once guilty pleasure of ordering takeout. It’s not being lazy, it’s being heroic! Support local, order take-away. Pick it up or get it delivered, most local businesses have take away ordering easily accessible through a simple website visit or direct call.
Sometimes we forget that dinner isn’t the only meal of the day that should be fun! There’s some pretty awesome breakfast spots in SGB and a few restaurants that offer lunch specials on weekdays. What a great way to spice up your work-from-home day with a take-away meal just for you!
3. Purchase Beverages
Local pairs best with any meal! SGB is home to an impressive number of craft breweries, cideries, distilleries, and wineries also in need of our take-away efforts this season with tasting operations temporarily closed. Most locations are offering curbside pickup, delivery, and shipping through their website or via email/phone. If you’re going to have a nice end-of-day-glass-of-something anyways, why not make it local?
Plan now, visit later. Gift cards are a great way to support local spots that you know you want to visit at a later date but can’t get to right now. They also make great gifts that are versatile enough for any occasion no matter the level of provincial restrictions. Also Merchandise! Many restaurants and craft brewers/distillers sell merchandise ranging from hats and sweaters, to glassware and utensils. Add a new piece to your wardrobe and become a local business ambassador all at once when you purchase an item and wear it in your next social media post.
5. Show Some Social Media Love
A like, tag, comment, share, or review is an awesome way to show your support and to acknowledge all the efforts of our local food and beverage community. Never underestimate the power of a positive review. We are much more likely to take action when we dislike something than when we love it, lets change that this season! Show your love and support and put a smile on someone’s face today!
