Free Things to do in South Georgian Bay
To get anything for free these days is hard to come by, or too good to be true.
We compiled some great things to do & see (for free!) in South Georgian Bay. So leave your wallet behind, grab a friend and check out these fun and free ideas.
This is for all the beer lovers out there. Tours take place at the Collingwood Brewery every Saturday from 12-6pm on the hour. You can also request to book a tour on alternate dates.
Creemore Springs also offer free tours daily & you also get some free samples. Tours take place Monday-Saturday from 12-4pm on the hour and Sunday 12-3pm on the hour.
Last but certainly not least, you can book a 20min tour at Side Launch Brewing Company, you’ll get to taste, touch, see and smell every stage of the brewing process. Just go online, pick when you want the tour and viola! Or should we say, Cheers!
Who says you need to spend money to be entertained? Living Stone Golf Resort offers live music at Memories Restaurant every Friday & Saturday night, as well as Gustavs Chophouse & Bar, where there’s live music Wednesday to Saturday nights!
Want to participate in the music? Join Gord at The Dam Pub in Thornbury for a Traditional Music Session which take place the 2nd & 4th Wednesday of each month.
Winter is coming, sharpen up those skates, dust off your helmet and hit the ice! The Collingwood outdoor rink is free of charge if you want to do a bit of public skating, same goes for the Wasaga Beach outdoor rink (beside the Recplex). There’s also 4 outdoor rinks in Clearview Township that are free of charge. South Georgian Bay provides all sorts of options for both indoor and outdoor skating.
The Village at Blue is open every day, all year long. While the attractions within the Village do come with a fee, it’s free to park, enter and take a stroll around the cobblestone village. Beginning December 1st, the Blumination Dream Trail is lit up from 5-10pm. Take an illuminated winter stroll through the Village, around the Mill Pond and straight through your imagination. There is also fireworks every Saturday night in the winter. On top of that, there are tons of events happening at the village, of Blue Mountain! Whether you are a guest at the resort or a local, the Village is always a must-see and do in during the winter season.
It’s no wonder that Clarksburg is also called “Artsburg,” with their many galleries & studios, it’s the perfect place to visit some galleries and tap into your creative side. The gallery windows are always changing and give new meaning to the phrase “paint the town.” Just up the street from Clarksburg is the lovely town of Thornbury and where you can find The Loft Gallery, just off the main street. There’s also Bonnie Dorgelo & Paintings just minutes from Blue Mountain Resort & the Blue Mountain Foundation for the Arts located right in the heart of Creative Simcoe Street in Collingwood.
Learn about Meaford’s history at the Meaford Museum, located on the harbour on Bayfield Street (make sure to go online for hours of operation). Craigleith Heritage Depot located just North of Blue Mountain Village. The Collingwood Museum is also a great local museum, the museum’s are free to visit but do accept donations.
