“Fall” in Love in South Georgian Bay

The South Georgian Bay region is the perfect recipe for fall dates and romance. From classic fall must-do’s, including hiking, apple picking, cider tasting, and pumpkin patches, to helicopter rides and glamping in the middle of the forest, we’ve got you covered. There truly is no place like South Georgian Bay in the fall, so read this weekend itinerary, plan your trip, and spend some much needed quality time with your partner.

Day 1 – Friday Afternoon

We cannot think of a more romantic spot to stay in South Georgian Bay during the fall season than at Back Forty Glamping, located on the outskirts of Meaford. Nothing says quality time and intimacy with your partner like camping out in the middle of the forest, surrounded by nature and the beautiful fall colours. And what better way to do it than by setting up shop for the weekend in one these gorgeous modernized domes, with windows exposing the falling leaves? Check in on Friday afternoon and get ready to begin a fun and relaxing weekend away with your love.

Back Forty Glamping

Are you prepared to embark on a once in a lifetime opportunity? Make memories together that you will be talking about for years to come as you admire the exploding colours of the forest from above. Head out on the Beaver Valley Apple Country Tour with Big Blue Air to take a helicopter tour over the Beaver River, Georgian Bay, Blue Mountain Village, Collingwood, and the countryside in between.

Friday Evening

Make your way to downtown Collingwood to enjoy authentic Italian cuisine at Brunello Restaurant and Bar. Dine in this romantic setting with dim-lighting, a vast wine list, and delicious food for an amazing date night to start the weekend on the right note.

After returning back to your oasis, wind down with a glass of wine by the fire (perhaps from a local winery like The Roost) and make a toast to the two of you. Before crawling into bed, relax in the warmth of the hot tub just steps from your room. Take a minute to appreciate the silence of the night and gaze up at the twinkling stars, blanketing the South Georgian Bay region.

Day 2 – Saturday Morning

There’s truly nothing like stepping out of your room on the first morning to be greeted by that crisp autumn air and the sun peeking through the auburn leaves.
Get ready to head into town to first, grab a warm toasted s’mores latte or pumpkin spice chai from McGinty’s Café.
Hop back in the car to drive roughly 15 minutes past Meaford along Georgian Bay to The Farmer’s Pantry. Apple picking is a must-do fall date so grab a basket (and your partner’s hand) and start strolling through the orchards. This date is a win-win…you get to take home a big basket of local apples to make delicious apple pie, and it’s the perfect spot to snap some cute couples photos. Check out the market while you’re there and grab a quick snack for lunch.

Saturday Afternoon

Next stop: Petun Conservation Area for a fun and rather unique hiking experience. Travel along The Bruce Trail with Free Spirit Tours on the Hike and Wine experience. This is unarguably one of the best times to explore the Bruce Trail, thanks to the extraordinary beauty of the forest at this time of year. Learn all about the wildlife of South Georgian Bay as you embark on a 45-60 minute guided hike, and then reward yourself after with wine and charcuterie at Georgian Hills Vineyards

Make your way into the charming little downtown of Thornbury and grab a seat at Thornbury Craft Cider and Brew House. You can’t drive through Thornbury without stopping here to visit this nearly 100 year old restored Cider House. Share a flight of delicious ciders made from locally grown apples, including some of their fall features like the Spiced Apple Cider.

Saturday Evening

Take a short walk down the street and arrive at The Mill Café for some dinner. This restaurant is one of Thornbury’s gems, as it’s set in a historic building on the Beaver River and sits above the Beaver Dam, making for a pretty unique place to enjoy a meal. Peppercorn crusted striploin, chicken basil fusilli, and seared salmon are just a few of the delicious entrées featured on the dinner menu. There’s nothing better than a hot, cozy meal after a long day outdoors.

Day 3 – Sunday Morning

Rise and shine! Start your Sunday morning with a Private Yoga Session at Back Forty with local yoga instructor, Araxi Davidian. This experience will allow you to start the day refreshed, and connected with both your partner and nature. Be sure to book this add-on to your glamping trip in advance.

After spending a final peaceful morning in the woods, it’s time to pack up and head to Coffin Ridge Boutique Winery. Plan to arrive around lunchtime to enjoy this elevated picnic experience called Picnic in the Vineyard. Sit overlooking the vines with a glass of wine and their famous Vintner’s Plate, which consists of locally sourced goodies, all bundled up in a picnic basket. This is the perfect opportunity to cozy up together inside this rustic, wooden enclosure for a super unique and private experience.

Sunday Afternoon

After lunch, hop back in the car for a nice, long fall drive through the colours, and along the shore of Georgian Bay. On the way, stop in at Good Grief Coffee Roasters in Thornbury to grab a hot coffee to sip on during the voyage.

Arrive at the Scandinave Spa Blue Mountain to spend the early afternoon doing what Sunday’s are meant for – relaxing and rejuvenating. This is a spectacular time of year to visit as the thermal baths are outdoors and surrounded by the beauty of the Blue Mountains. Watch the leaves fall from the midst of the thermal baths, while listening to the cascading waterfalls and chirping birds. Ready to take a break from the water? Bundle up in matching robes and kick back in a hammock, or schedule a Duo Massage to relieve stress and tension while spending quality time together.

Sunday Evening

Did you really think we were going to let you leave South Georgian Bay without visiting a pumpkin patch? Make Morrison Pumpkin Farm in Collingwood your last stop before heading out of town. Check out the beautiful photo displays and engage in some fun, fall games, including a corn maze. Load your car full of pumpkins, fresh produce, and fall decor to bring home a piece of South Georgian Bay. We hope you enjoyed all that South Georgian Bay has to offer in the fall time, and can’t wait to see you again in the winter. Safe travels home!
