48 Hours in South Georgian Bay

With all the amazing activities to do in South Georgian Bay, you could easily spend a week in the area, but it is possible to spend 48 hours here! We have compiled a list of absolute must-sees for shorter visits. Get ready for a jam-packed schedule full of fun!

Day One

Wasaga Beach 

Start the day in Wasaga Beach and spend a few hours relaxing on the beach – Beach Area 1 and 2 are the most popular spots and Beach Area 3 is the only beach you can bring your dog. Beach Areas 3-6 are the best places to go if you want a quieter spot to relax.

If you have extra time, visit Nancy Island Historic Site where you can go up the lighthouse, take part in hands on demonstrations (including knot tying), watch a video presentation, view the displays, browse the souvenir shop and even see the remains of the HMS Nancy ship from the War of 1812.

Stayner & Creemore

After spending the morning in Wasaga Beach, drive over to Stayer’s Ecopark! Walk around the lake, bring your dog to EcoBark (an off-leash dog park) or do some bird watching through the Bird Blind.

Then, make your way to Leishman Pottery – a family run business located in an old school house featuring authentically made mugs, bowls, dishes and more! 

Next, check out the quaint town of Creemore just a 15 minute drive from Stayner. Walk over to Creemore’s log cabin and directly beside it is North America’s Smallest Jail.

Lastly, go to Creemore Springs Brewery where you can take a tour (free samples included) which runs Monday to Saturday 12-4pm on the hour or Sunday 12-3pm on the hour. 

Collingwood

Come to Collingwood for dinner! Northwinds Brewery has amazing pub food and features a variety of dishes from burgers and sandwiches to fish and chips. Don’t miss out on trying their beers brewed in house as well as guest beers on tap that include different yeasts, ales, lagers and more!

Or just go to Northwinds for drinks and have dinner at the Smoke which is across the street! Offering award-winning BBQ such as smoked ribs, pulled pork and beef brisket. Try the Chef’s Tasting Platter with a variety of smoked meats, fries, coleslaw and more!

Another great option is Fish and Sips which serves authentic fish and chips, delicious salads, burgers and sandwiches!

After dinner, make sure to walk along the water at Sunset Point Park. Enjoy the beautiful view of Georgian Bay as well as the Collingwood Terminals. Grab some ice-cream from the Chipper which is open until 8pm every night.

Day Two

Collingwood

Start the morning off right with brunch at Oliver and Bonacini at Blue Mountain Village – featuring a famous Eggs Benedict served on a scone, Belgium waffles or buffet style food which is offered every weekend.

Try Gustav’s Chophouse that serves a great classic breakfast with all your favourite go-to’s. 

On weekends the Iron Skillet has an amazing range of breakfast dishes as well.

After a fueling breakfast, explore Collingwood’s historic downtown with plenty of shops and restaurants to discover. If you have time, take advantage of our amazing trail system with over 60 km just in-town – perfect for people who wish to run, cycle or just take a leisurely stroll!

Thornbury & Clarksburg

After a relaxing morning in Collingwood, make your way over to Thornbury and try out axe throwing at Axed. Axed accepts walk-ins, however you can also rent a lane and receive one-on-one coaching from instructors.

Up next, visit Rocky Shores Health and Wellness and browse the store which is full of natural products ranging from cosmetics, snacks, drinks, ice cream and more!

Top off the visit with tastings at Thornbury Village Cidery and sample flights of wine, cider and beer while enjoying it on their beautiful outdoor patio.

For an extra excursion, go to Clarksburg otherwise known as Artsburg (just 5 minutes away) and take advantage of their amazing art scene – explore the art galleries, shops and street art.

Meaford

On the way into Meaford make a quick stop at Grandma Lambe’s which sells fresh produce and delicious baked goods!

Then make your way to Meaford Museum featuring historical exhibits on the area.

After, walk along the water at Memorial Park which has 468 metres of beautiful shoreline on Georgian Bay as well as a snack shack, two pavilion shelters, playground areas, a mini-golf course, woodland walking trails and free parking.

Or visit Beautiful Joe Park which has statues and memorials as well as a beach and leash-free dog park.

Wind down your day by taking in a show or play at Meaford Hall which has an abundance of on-going events year round!
